Dana and Thomas

Thomas kept peering outside the window, noticing many armed men carrying torches and marking some houses with a yellow piece of chalk, drawing a slashing sign above the main doors. It was a curious sight for him so he faced Dana, the waitress, as she lied on the bed and prepared to question her about it.

“What are they doing?” he asked. The waitress turned around and curled up within her sheets.

“Just go to sleep,” she protested. “You’re supposed to be tired and docile after that!” she protested. Thomas laughed.

“Sorry to disappoint you so!” Thomas said with the proud face of a 5-year old boy after discovering that he could write his name in the sand with his pee by aiming it correctly. Dana groaned but answered anyway.

“It’s just a preparation for the coming inspection. They mark houses with Deelamn inhabitants,” she said.

“Huh? Really? Why must they be inspected,” he asked.

Dana looked at Thomas and raised an eyebrow. “You don’t know?” She shook her head. Thomas looked at her and shrugged.

“I really don’t,” he said.

“Bwah!” She made a loud, grumbling noise and sat upright. “Are you some sort of country boy? You don’t seem so stupid to me!”

Thomas shrugged. “I’m not used to being in a city for long; we usually just go grab an assignment and rarely need to stay within the cities themselves. This is also the first city where I’ve seen so many Deelamn living among us,” he said.

Dana shrugged and lied back on the bed again, then turned to face in the opposite direction to Thomas. “That’s all I know about that, sorry,” she said. Thomas nodded and paid attention to the unusual spectacle once more. He saw that not all of the guards were human; there was a Threed among them. He also noticed that they skipped Dana’s house and the one to its left but marked the house on the right.

“What about the Threed? Is that common? They’re a very unusual sight.”

Dana turned to face the ceiling and opened her eyes. She removed herself from the sheets she was using to cover herself and hit the bed with both of her fists in frustration. “You’re way too talkative tonight!” she protested. Thomas looked at her with a smirk on his face. She sighed.

“No, it’s not common for Threed to join them and that is all I know about that!” she yelled. Thomas nodded.

“So they’ll mark only the houses the Threed tells them from what I can see,” he said. He made gestures with his hands, walking himself over the whole process that the guards were following as he could understand it. Dana lied in the bed and let out a groan of frustration.

“Ok, come over here,” she said after exhaling loudly. Thomas looked at her and grinned. He walked slowly towards the bed. Dana cooed with a seductive tone in her voice, “That’s it my mercenary. I’ll make sure you use up some of that energy and fall asleep with a smile on your face,” she said as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into the bed with her.
